SSX 3 was probably one of my favorite games ever as a kid. The music, the style, the personality of the characters...I could go on. It wasn't until I was much older did I learn they made a GBA version of the game. With the Gameboy homebrew scene still in full effect, what if we de-made SSX 3 even MORE and put it on a GameBoy Color.
Anyone who has played the GBA version of SSX 3 knows, while in a way impressive, its still a bit of a mess. Unlike the Tony Hawk games that leaned into the limitations of the system and switched to an isometric view, SSX 3 tries to recreate the console counterparts with a full 3D experience. Part of what makes handhelds of this era so fun is when the limitations are realized, and creative solutions are created and the art is specially crafted around it.
So will this be better than the GBA version? Probably not. But I am hoping to try and capture just a little bit of the essence of what an SSX game is and put it on this ancient handheld. Due to the nature of this being based purely on copyrighted content, this is really just a passion project and won't be distributed for profit (or maybe not at all). Also for that reason, its only intended to be a multi-weekend endeavor so the scope will be limited. I'm looking to have:
3 Tracks (at least)
1 mountain
1 city (Metro City = GOAT)
1 superpipe
3 Character
Griff
Mac
Kaori
Basic trick set
360s
Flips
4 grabs
4 "Uber" tricks
A few short 8-bit loops of some of the iconic songs
